Radon Gas Testing: Frequently Asked Questions

Why have I been contacted about radon testing?

In line with our commitment to keeping our residents safe, Sanctuary is carrying out radon testing in some of our homes.

This work is guided by UK Government data which tells us the places where radon might be present. We want to test your home because you live in one of these places.

MCP Environmental, a specialist contractor, is helping us with this work. You may be visiting this page because you have received a letter from MCP Environmental.

What is radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring gas that can enter buildings from the ground. While it is invisible and has no smell, long-term exposure to high levels of radon can pose health risks.

How will you test for radon?

The testing process is straightforward and non-intrusive. A small, passive detector is placed in your home for around 90 days.

This detector measures radon levels over time. Once the testing period is complete, the detector is sent to a lab for analysis to check if any further action is needed.

What happens when you get the test results?

If radon’s present but the levels are within a safe range, we won’t need to make any changes to your home.

If higher than normal levels of radon are found, we will take steps to reduce them to keep your home safe.

What do I need to do now?

Please follow the instructions in your letter from MCP Environmental. If you have a further question for Sanctuary about this work, please phone our Customer Hub on 0800 131 3348
