Antisocial behaviour

If you’re experiencing antisocial behaviour, some issues can be sorted out quickly by speaking to your neighbour. For example - noise from a late-night BBQ. They may not realise there’s a problem.

If you feel safe to do so, we recommend trying to resolve small issues yourself first.

If you don’t feel comfortable speaking to your neighbour, you can:

• report the issue using our online form
• call us on 0800 916 1522

If you’re threatened with violence, feel unsafe, or see a crime, contact the police straight away:

• call 999 in an emergency
• call 111 for non-emergencies

You can also report concerns anonymously through Crimestoppers:

When you contact us, we’ll:

• check if the issue is classed as ASB
• set a priority based on how serious it is and how it affects you
• ask for as much detail as possible so we understand what’s happening
• keep your identity confidential unless you agree to share it

Please note: If you choose to stay anonymous, we won’t be able to contact you for more details or give updates. This may mean we have to close the case without taking action.

We’ll also:

• agree an action plan with you. This may include things for you to do, like keeping a diary of incidents
• handle the situation with care and explain what action we can take
• keep you updated and explain if there are details, we can’t share

We take all reports seriously. Where needed, we may work with partners such as the council, environmental health, community groups, mediation services and the police.

To help resolve your case, we’ll:

• offer support and advice
• try informal steps first where appropriate

If this doesn’t work, or the situation is more serious, we may need to take formal action. This can include legal steps such as an injunction, and in some cases, seeking possession of a home.

You can use this form to report ASB if you’re a Sanctuary resident, or if you’re reporting an issue involving one of our residents.

Everyone has the right to enjoy their home, as long as they don’t disturb others. In some cases, problems can be sorted out by having a calm conversation with your neighbour.

If this doesn’t work, or the behaviour is causing distress, we will take action.

To act, we need evidence. You can help by keeping a record of what happens and reporting each incident.

Not all noise is ASB. It’s usually only classed as antisocial if it’s excessive, happens often, or takes place between 11pm and 7am.

Noise issues can include:

• Persistent loud music
• DIY at unsocial hours
• Regular parties
• frequent visitors late at night

Most noise complaints are dealt with by your local council’s Environmental Health team. They have the power to investigate and take action.

Before you report a noise issue to Sanctuary, we recommend trying to resolve it yourself if you feel safe to do so. A calm conversation or a simple note can often help.

Your neighbour may not realise they’re causing a problem.

If talking to your neighbour doesn’t work, or you don’t feel comfortable approaching them, you can use the form below to report the issue.

Drug use or dealing is a crime and should be reported to the police immediately.

If someone’s words or behaviour make you feel scared or unsafe, this may be intimidation or harassment.

This can include:

• abuse related to your race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability
• threatening or intimidating behaviour
• violence or threats of violence
• abusive language
• unwanted or abusive calls, texts or emails
• stalking
• begging that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe

If you think you are in immediate danger, report it to the police straight away.
