Plans to redevelop a former Worcester swimming pool site into much-needed new affordable homes have taken a big step forward.

Ownership of the former Sansome Walk swimming pool site has now officially transferred from Worcester City Council to housing provider Sanctuary.

Sanctuary has planning permission to transform the site into 40 new affordable homes for local people and is now looking to start work on the site and bring it back to life as soon as possible.

Work to remove surplus materials left following the demolition of the former swimming pool will begin in the coming weeks, with construction of the new homes expected to start later in the year.

The completed development will deliver a mix of one-bedroom flats and two to four-bedroom houses, helping to meet the established local need for more affordable housing.

“We have a major presence in Worcester and are committed to investing in the city and delivering high-quality new homes for local people.

This is a significant step and I’m delighted we can now push forward and turn our plans for this important site in the heart of the city into a reality.”
