The National Housing Federation (NHF) and Chartered Institute for Housing (CIH) have announced that they will setting up an independent panel to make recommendations for tackling poor quality housing in the social housing sector.

The panel will bring together a small group of people with expertise and lived experience of social housing to guide the sector in its commitment to taking swift and decisive action to fix homes with major quality issues and to start to tackle the root causes of these problems. It will also look at any other issues which are putting pressure on the social housing system and could be aggravating issues with quality, such as overcrowding.

"We are committed to continually improving our services for residents. We will watch with interest the work of the independent panel and will reflect on any learning opportunities that come from it. We remain absolutely committed to ensuring we provide our tenants with safe, secure and affordable homes."
