Blackberry Court retirement community in Streethay, near Lichfield, has won a national award. It won Best Partnership (100+ Homes) at the 2025 Inside Housing Development Awards.
These awards celebrate great housing projects across the UK. Winning this award shows the hard work and teamwork of everyone who helped build these homes.
The project was a team effort from start to finish. Sanctuary staff worked closely with partner organisations to plan and build the homes.
A Highly Commended award was given in the Best Supported Housing Development – Rural/Suburban category.
Blackberry Court is more than a group of buildings. It is a place designed to help people live happy and independent lives. People feel welcome and stay active in the homes and shared spaces. Everyone is part of a wonderful community.
Sanctuary worked with Keon Homes to build this new community for people aged over 55. The project sets a high standard for retirement living. Homes England provided funding.
Blackberry Court is run by Sanctuary Supported Living. It has 78 extra care apartments. Residents can use many shared spaces, including:
- A gym
- A spa bathroom
- A beauty salon
- A quiet lounge with books
- A public restaurant
The Maples retirement village has 60 bungalows for shared ownership and social rent. Each bungalow has its own outdoor space and access to shared facilities.
Dave Soothill (National Development Director) said "This shows what can be done when teams and partners work well together. These homes are needed and everyone involved should be proud of this national award".
Sanctuary would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped create Blackberry Court. Their hard work has made a warm, safe place to live, with care and support available when needed.
