Sanctuary representatives gathered around display boards showing the Laindon regeneration plans

Sanctuary unveiled its plans to transform the heart of Laindon town centre at two drop-in community consultation events on Wednesday 6 December.

Almost 400 people attended the events held at Laindon Community Centre and Paddocks Community Hall to view the plans and share their thoughts on the proposals.

Members of Sanctuary’s project team were on hand to listen to residents’ views and talk to them about Sanctuary’s plans for the scheme. The proposed regeneration will deliver new, high-quality affordable housing, local shops including a larger Lidl supermarket and units for local retailers, and an option for an improved medical centre, as well as managed parking and a fitting setting for the war memorial and historic Laindon fountain.

“Having listened to feedback from residents, elected representatives and local businesses the plans that Sanctuary has developed will create a vibrant community hub for people to live, work and shop.

The local community has been left without vital services for far too long and since Sanctuary took over the project earlier this year, we’ve been working quickly to get the scheme back on track.

I’m pleased that we’ll be starting on site later this month as we continue to work with the community on the design and plans for their scheme.”

Sarah Brind, Sanctuary’s Head of Development – South

In March, Sanctuary announced it was working with the Swan Housing Association to deliver the Laindon centre regeneration. This followed Sanctuary’s takeover of Swan earlier in the year.

Sanctuary is one of the largest not-for-profit providers of housing and care in the country, managing around 120,000 units of accommodation across England and Scotland, including social housing, care homes, supported housing and student accommodation.

It has experience in managing large, complex and high-quality developments.

Anyone who was unable to attend the consultation events can view the proposals and share their views online until Friday, 22 December.
