Building work has started on a development of 150 new homes in Aberdeen.

Housing provider Sanctuary is delivering the new affordable homes for local people at the £18.6m development in Persley Den.

The project, which is being delivered at the wider Southbank development, will provide a mix of six apartment blocks and 30 houses, all for social rent.

Funding of £11.5m has been provided towards the affordable homes element by the Scottish Government and the site itself, which will be managed by Sanctuary Scotland, is due for completion in April 2024.

Gillian Lavety, Sanctuary’s Development Director – Scotland, said: “We’re excited to be able to start work on this project and are committed to meeting the Scottish Government’s ambitious targets for affordable housing.

“We’re grateful for the support of our partners at Aberdeen City Council and the Scottish Government to help realise those goals.”

Shona Robison Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Housing and Local Government said “We are committed to ensuring everyone has a safe, warm affordable home that meets their needs. I am pleased we’ve been able to invest £11.5 million to support the delivery of 150 new high quality homes which will boost inclusive community living in Aberdeen.”
