Beech Grove staff at the new Bullwood Gardens development in Hockley

Beech Grove Homes has delivered 22 much-needed new affordable homes in the Essex village of Hockley.

Residents are now moving into the homes, which are part of Beech Grove’s wider Bullwood Gardens development, on the site of the former Bullwood Hall Prison.

As well as the homes for affordable rent, the £17.9 million development also includes properties for shared ownership and outright sale.

The site will deliver 72 new homes in total, with a mixture of two to five-bedroom family houses and one and two-bedroom apartments. More than 40 properties have been completed so far, with the remainder due to be completed by early 2022.

David Soothill, Director of Development - England at Beech Grove Homes, said: “The regeneration of the former Bullwood Hall prison site represents a significant development in the Rochford district.

“We’re delighted to be delivering high-quality new homes in Hockley and helping to meet the local need for more affordable housing.”

The new homes have been built by appointed contractor Hill Partnerships, while Beech Grove Homes has worked closely with Rochford District Council to bring the new development to fruition.

Isabella Ferguson, Beech Grove’s Director of Sales and Marketing, added: “Bullwood Gardens is a fantastic site and proving very popular. It’s great to see the development taking shape and delivering new homes for people in Rochford.”

Bullwood Hall Prison was originally built in the 1960s and officially closed in March 2013 before the buildings were demolished in 2018.
